Diana Prince

Biography

Early Life

Diana of Themyscira was born from the deepest desires of her mother, Queen Hippolyta, who longed for a child of her own. Fashioning a child from clay with her own hands, Hippolyta prayed to the gods to grant it life. Moved by her love and hope, the gods blessed the clay with life, and Diana took her first breath as a child of Themyscira.

Diana was one of the few children on the island, beloved by all of the Amazons. Among them, she found her closest friend in Nubia, often called her twin sister despite their different origins. While Diana was born from clay, Nubia had emerged from the mystical Well of Souls both on the same day. The two were inseparable, often seen riding their kangaroos across the island. Diana’s loyal steed, Jumpa, was known as one of the fastest in all of Themyscira.

As the years passed, Diana matured into adulthood. Like all Amazons, the enchantments upon Themyscira preserved her youth and vitality, halting her physical aging. Diana trained diligently among her sisters, quickly rising to become one of the finest warriors on the island.

But even the most disciplined of Amazons could be tempted by adventure. One morning, Diana skipped her scheduled training with the Pegasi to watch the sunrise with Jumpa. As dawn broke, Diana spotted a dark object streaking through the sky, crashing into the ocean beyond the island’s shores.

Curiosity and compassion drove her to investigate. Upon reaching the crash site, Diana discovered a strange metal vessel sinking beneath the waves and inside was a man. Rescuing him, she pulled both the unconscious stranger and his craft to shore. As he coughed up seawater, he introduced himself weakly as Steve Trevor before collapsing.

Diana barely had time to process the sight of a man, a being she had only heard about in stories, before the Amazons arrived. Diana’s mother, Hippolyta led them, commanding Diana to step away. But Diana stood her ground, reminding them of their duty to aid all who found themselves on Themyscira’s shores. Reluctantly, Hippolyta allowed Steve to remain, confined to the beach and under close watch.

Diana became Steve’s caretaker, tending to his wounds with the Purple Healing Ray. As the days passed, he affectionately nicknamed her “Angel,” grateful for the life she had saved. When Steve finally awoke fully, he explained the urgency of his mission. His homeland was facing imminent attack, and if he did not return, countless lives would be at risk. Though Diana explained that Themyscira had no known way back to Man’s World, she could not ignore his plea.

Diana brought Steve’s plight to her mother and the Amazon council, interrupting a crucial meeting. The council debated what to do with the outsider, with many arguing for imprisonment. But Diana passionately argued that it was time for the Amazons to renew their mission, to bring peace and understanding to Man’s World. She urged them to send a champion to aid Steve and to remind the world of the Amazons’ purpose. The council ultimately agreed. A contest would be held to select the champion.

“We have a saying, my people. Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue if you can pacify, and don’t raise your hand at all until you’ve first extended it.”

The Contest

Hippolyta, however, forbade Diana from entering, unwilling to lose her daughter to the outside world. Yet Diana’s heart yearned for adventure and to fulfill the Amazonian mission. Disguising herself with a helmet, she secretly entered the contest. Diana faced a series of grueling challenges testing her strength, wit, and resolve. The final trial was the Bracelets Test, traditionally involving arrows. This time, however, the blacksmith Io used one of the mysterious weapons Steve had carried, a firearm. The task was simple: deflect the projectile with the bracelets or be disqualified. Diana emerged victorious.

Before the crowd, Hippolyta announced that a champion had been chosen. When Diana removed her helmet, the queen’s heart sank. Yet, bound by the sacred rules of the contest, she could not deny her daughter the title. In the royal armory, Hippolyta gifted Diana the Armor of Athena, the Bracelets of Submission, and the Amazons’ most treasured artifact, the Golden Perfect, a lasso that compelled absolute truth from any ensnared by it.

Fully equipped, Diana returned to Steve’s side and revealed that she had been chosen as the champion. Together, they prepared to leave Themyscira aboard Steve’s repaired jet, which Io had rendered invisible to protect the island’s location. Before they left, Hippoltya warned that Diana may never find her way home. Unswayed as they took flight, Diana left her home behind and ventured into Man’s World, carrying with her the hopes of the Amazons and the wisdom of the gods.

Man’s World

Upon departing Themyscira’s mystical boundaries, Diana’s initial encounter with Man’s World presented unforeseen challenges. The island’s protective enchantments no longer in effect, she discovered a sudden language barrier with Steve Trevor. Communication became possible only when both held the Golden Perfect, the Amazonian lasso compelling truth.

Their journey led them to a high-security military installation. Upon landing, they were immediately surrounded by armed personnel. Unable to comprehend the situation due to the language gap, Diana relied on Steve’s explanations through the Golden Perfect. He introduced her to Sasha Bordeaux, head of the Advanced Research Group Uniting Super-Humans (A.R.G.U.S.), and Agent Etta Candy, his trusted colleague. Steve conveyed that they required debriefing and would be transported to another location for further discussions.

During transit, their vehicle was suddenly filled with a noxious gas. Reacting swiftly, Diana tore the roof off to disperse the poison, revealing assailants clad in dark green attire and gas masks. As Steve and Etta evacuated the compromised vehicle, the attackers opened fire. Demonstrating her warrior training, Diana deflected the bullets with her bracelets and subdued the assailants using the Golden Perfect. Under its influence, she extracted a confession: they were operatives of Dr. Poison, a notorious terrorist intent on devastating the United States. Before further information could be obtained, the captive took a cyanide pill to avoid interrogation.

Proceeding to an A.R.G.U.S. facility, Diana was introduced to Dr. Julia Kapatelis, a renowned expert in mythology and ancient cultures. Dr. Kapatelis communicated with Diana in a fragmented dialect, facilitating her immersion into the English language and contemporary customs. Over several months, Diana resided with Julia and her daughter, Vanessa, acclimating to the nuances of Man’s World.

The tranquility was disrupted when Steve received intelligence on an imminent attack orchestrated by Dr. Poison. Mobilizing quickly, Steve, Etta, and Diana responded to an assault on the White House. While navigating the chaos, Diana intervened just in time to prevent Dr. Poison from injecting the President with a lethal substance. Engaging in combat, Diana overpowered Dr. Poison. However, before she could extract vital information, an electrical surge emanated from Dr. Poison’s wrist, rendering her comatose. A disembodied voice identified itself as Dr. Cyber, declaring responsibility for Dr. Poison’s condition and indicating that no further answers would be forthcoming.

This encounter marked the beginning of Diana’s awareness of deeper conspiracies within Man’s World and initiated the pursuit of the enigmatic Dr. Cyber.
