Biography
Life in Egypt
Prince Khufu was born during the 19th Dynasty of Egypt under the reign of Ramesses II. As heir to the throne, he lived a life of honor and duty, sharing it with his beloved, Princess Chay-Ara. Their lives were forever changed when they discovered a strange alien substance buried in the desert — a metal that radiated unnatural energy, later known as Nth metal. With the aid of the champion Teth-Adam, they brought the metal to the Temple of Horus, where it was forged into a ceremonial blade.
That same blade would be used to end their lives. A jealous priest named Hath-Set, corrupted by his own ambitions, murdered Khufu and Chay-Ara with the Nth metal weapon. But the metal’s properties went beyond the physical. The energies it held bound their souls together, locking them into a cycle of reincarnation that would span centuries.
Throughout time, Khufu was reborn again and again — as Brian Kent, Hannibal Hawkes, James Wright, and finally as Carter Hall, an archaeologist in the 1940s.

Time With The Justice Society
At first, Carter lived unaware of his ancient lineage. But during a dig in Egypt, he uncovered the tomb of Prince Khufu. The experience triggered a flood of memories, unlocking his past lives and revealing his true identity. With a new sense of purpose, he fashioned a winged harness using Nth metal and took up the mantle of Hawkman.
Not long after, Carter met fellow archaeologist Shiera Sanders. The moment they connected, something awakened in her as well — memories of her life as Chay-Ara returned, and she joined Carter in battle as Hawkgirl. The two rekindled their ancient romance and became founding members of the Justice Society of America. Together, they fought for truth and justice until their final battle, where they were killed by Nazi scientist Anton Hastor — a reincarnated Hath-Set.

Thanagar Joins The Justice League
Years later, Earth was visited by two Thanagarian peacekeepers: Katar Hol and Shayera Thol. The pair presented themselves as allies to Earth’s heroes, joining the Justice League. In truth, they were scouts, sent to assess the planet’s readiness for a full-scale Thanagarian invasion. While Katar served with the League, his interactions with members of the newly reformed Justice Society led to a jarring revelation.
Contact with the legacy of Carter Hall triggered buried memories within Katar. He recalled his former lives, including his time as Khufu and Carter himself. The realization shattered his sense of identity and set him on a path of redemption. Shayera, however, had not yet regained her past-life memories, leading to a painful divide between them. Katar, now embracing his identity as Carter Hall once more, confronted her and ultimately stopped the Thanagarian armada. With help from the Green Lantern Corps, he prevented the invasion and defended the legacy of Earth’s heroes
