Episode 5

Episode 5 of Daredevil flew by quickly at least to me. It was a very central episode that kept us with Matt the entrie time. This episode was another huge step for Matt into Daredevil, so lets break it down.

Matt meets with the bank manager for a loan but surprise the bank mangaer is out for the day and the assistant bank manager is there to help him. Who is that you ask? Why everyone’s favorite Yusuf Khan, Kamala Khan’s father. We get a lot of plugs for Ms. Marvel, even seeing a Funko Pop that Yusuf said was a custom Funko. It makes me wonder what Funkos actually exsist in the MCU if Yusuf had to create one for Ms. Marvel.

The rest of the episode follows a typical bank robbery episode where Matt has to be super careful how he takes down thugs so he doesnt reveal his identity or get the hostages killed. He does help Yusuf out but reveals his skills to Yusuf. I believe this is because Matt could tell, maybe by listening to his heart beat, that Yusuf’s daughter was the Ms. Marvel he talked so much about to him. That meant he could trust Yusuf with his identity. There is a line though where he asks, “What kind of lawyer are you” and Matt responds with the line from Spiderman: No Way Home, “A really good one.” Love that throwback, felt very connected.

Overall, I enjoyed Episode 5 mostly because there was no BB Report, I do not like the BB Report at all and always feels like it pulls away from the focus of the episode. It feels very not necessary.

Episode 6

Episode 6 was a fantastic episode that finally led us to not only Matt as Daredevil again but Fisk letting out the beast again. The biggest thing at the beginning of the episode was how Luca, one of the mob bosses, so heavily disrespected Fisk that I thought he was going to snap his neck right there. He didn’t though, but i could tell how angry it made Fisk. Hector’s niece ultimately pushes Matt to becoming Daredevil again, but first she throws major shade at him for not helping in any way.

Muse became a huge part of this episode and it was in a very eery way. We learned how he does his paints mixed with blood and then an epoxy placed over it that stops it from being removed. Fisk is furious about this and decides to create a new taskforce called the Anti-Vigilante Taskforce, and surprise surprise it is full of the corrupt cops that were involved in the White Tiger trial. But this is right up Fisk’s alley, he did the same thing with Dex when he was an FBI agent, take someone who has some cracks in their character and then just push on them tell they bend to your will. He is going to use these corrupt cops as his personal hit squad is what I think will happen.

Before he does this, he has a meeting with the high socialite of New York City, and he talks to Jacque. Yes, that Jacque from the Hawkeye show, he didn’t seem to be a bad guy in that show. But in this episode, he was giving major villain vibes.

When Fisk is talking with the Anti-Vigilante Taskforce, he directly calls out Cole North. When any charcter directly calls out a charcter, they have some signifigance and so I looked up some info on Cole North. He is a recent Marvel character, and he actually has a history of teaming up with Daredevil so I feel like later in the show or maybe next season he may change sides.

Then, we get to the meat of the episode when Cherry comes to talk with Matt, I think it was kinda stupid of him and I honestly though he was there to encorage Matt because he lays all of the facts about Muse down on Matt’s lap. But actually, he is there to dissuade Matt from chasing Muse. He tells him to leave it to the cops, do not pick the cowl up again. But I was like, Cherry if you want him to not be Daredevil again, dont give him a reason. That’s like handing someone who has given up cigarettes, a smoking cigarette and saying “Don’t smoke this.” I mean come on Cherry, but Cherry is not the one who seals the deal. Its actually Hector’s niece that does that.

Hector’s niece after talking to Matt, foolishly decides that she is going track down Muse herself. This is a stupid idea because she thought a teenage girl could take on this man that has been involved in several kidnappings. Muse does get her and starts to hook her up to his machine that takes blood. Around the same time, Hector’s wife calls Matt and says she hasn’t heard from her niece. Matt says he will take care of it, first he calls 911 but as they ask how they can help, he hangs up the phone and suits up as Daredevil. The ensuing battle between Muse and Daredevil is awesome, not as crazy as the Bullseye vs Daredevil fight but awesome nonetheless. He is able to save Hector’s niece from death but Muse gets away.

This scene is awesome but is even better because it is intercut with Fisk beating up Adam. Fisk finally lets his rage out, but he gives Adam a handicap. He gives Adam an axe and gives him the chance to take him down, and if he does he gets to go free. It reminds me of the scene in Arrow when Brick gives a guy a gun and if he can take Brick down, he can leave or something like that. In both cases, Brick and Fisk totally decimate the people that they give the handicap too. The episode ends with both Fisk and Matt accepting their true nature.
